An Interview With: JStar Balla
The New-York Drill Rapper is a Guiding Influence for his Peers.
As the older brother and guiding influence to rising star DD Osama and the late Notti Osama, it is fair to say that JStar Balla was born into the role he’s now taking up. Known for his gritty lyrics and commanding presence, the Harlem rapper brings a fresh yet authentic voice to the genre. Put simply, the New York artist’s music is a raw reflection of his experiences growing up in Harlem, blending hard-hitting beats with raw storytelling.
JStar’s journey to fame is marked by a relentless work ethic and a deep connection to his community. Tracks such as “Sweepers K” and “Like That” showcase a heavily New-York-inspired sound that resonates with his fans both locally and beyond. Yet despite his standout fame, the Harlem artist never shies away from preaching the importance of loyalty and perseverance, both being attributes he accredits towards his success.
We caught up with JStar Balla to discuss growing up in New York, the ability to utilise hardship and his visions for the future.
901: Who are we here with today?
JStar Balla: It’s JStar Balla. You already know what it is.
We’re here in New York and we’ve just been in Harlem. Can you talk about how you got to where you are today and your experiences growing up where you did?
It was rough, you know, like any other neighbourhood. A lot of things going on all the time. There were good days and there were bad days. But we stuck through it and just grinded. No matter the situation. No matter the weather. Through hardship, through poverty and all the rest of it.
How does it feel now that you and your people are making it?
It feels great. Everybody is together and succeeding. We wished for this.
You were in London recently for a couple of shows. Can you briefly talk about the trip and your experience in the UK?
I can’t lie London was a movie. Y’all showed me mad love. Sold out shows. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to show out in front of the fans who are coming out to see us perform.
Dream feature?
My son Drake. Oh, and my son J Cole. For sure.
Do you see yourself getting there?
100%. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.
What’s the end goal? Where do you see yourself in the future?
At the top of the charts.
Any last comments?
JStar Balla on all platforms. Y’all know where to find me.
