An Interview With: DD Osama

The New-York Artist is Paving the Way for the Next Generation.

Record-breaking hits with Lil Mabu. Featuring in Drake’s Nike holiday campaign. Co-signs from Lil Durk and Polo G. It seems like DD Osama’s rapid rise to stardom came out of the blue, especially when considering the ever-changing yet saturated nature of the New York rap scene. However, the 17-year-old’s rise should not be seen as a co-incidence or put down to luck. Rather, he embodies the next-generation of stars leading the way for the New York drill scene and those putting this subgenre on the map.

As spoken about on his debut album Here 2 Stay, the Harlem drill rapper never fails to mention his motivation of carrying on his brother Notti Osama’s legacy. Their first viral track, “Dead Opps”, has amassed over 25 million views on YouTube and paved the way for DD Osama to stamp his claim on the Harlem drill scene. And, like the name of his debut album, he is undeniably here to stay.

We caught up with DD Osama at his studio in New York to talk about his recent shows in the United Kingdom, growing up in Harlem, his dream features and his hobby of playing Grand Theft Auto with his fans.

901: Who are we here with today?

DD Osama: Sup y’all, it’s DD Osama. Y’all know the word.

You were in London recently for a couple of shows. Can you briefly talk about the trip and your experience in the UK?

It was crazy. We did a couple sold-out shows and the atmosphere was mad. Loud as hell. London I love y’all for sure, I can’t wait to go back.

We’re in the studio right now. Can you give the fans any insight into what you’re working on?

Making hits. Like always. Now it’s just being dedicated to working on my album and working on my craft. We’re in the studio a lot nowadays. Y’all will see why they call me the future.

Are there any features you’d want in the future?

My son NoCap for sure, he’s different. Also Lotto. I’d definitely want to want to hop on a track with her. Her music is fire. I think Future as well. Yeah, Future for sure.

You’re making big waves right now, but regarding the future, how do you see this all progressing?

It’s only in God’s hands. I don’t really know. I never really think that far ahead because I’d rather take each day as it comes. But either way, I see myself up and my people up with me.

So I take it that community means a lot to you?

100%. It’s always going to be me and my brothers. If one of us makes it, we all make it. It’s sort of happening already.

How has that experience of growing up with these people inspired you to get where you are today?

I’ve always been fuelled by being able to put my mans on. We’re really from the trenches. The feeling of bringing up your mans who have been with you since day one. I can’t really describe it. We’ve seen a lot and we’ve been through a lot together, but it was all done with the idea that one day we’ll get through it and be on the other side. I’m excited to see how that’s going to look.

Does the hype you’re getting ever feel surreal? And, not only that, but the fact that it’s happening with the same people you came up with.

For sure, but I tend not to think about it too much. It’s just about constantly going up and making sure that we’re all up together. Day by day.

We’ve heard you’ve been putting out content on Grand Theft Auto recently. Can you tell us anything more about that?

GTA? Yeah, NottiWorld RP. Dropping tomorrow. I don’t know when this interview is coming out but it’s probably dropped already. Join the discord discord.gg/nottiworldrp. We have a lot of fun for sure.

Any last comments?

I love y’all. DD Osama. DD Osama. DD Osama. Find me everywhere.
