An Interview With: 83 Baby

The New York Artist Wants to Follow in the Footsteps of his Predecessors.

Hailing from a new generation of rappers taking the New York drill scene by storm, 83 Baby’s rise to stardom is representative of his Harlem upbringing and the authenticity that brings with it. Blending sharp instrumentals with unfiltered storytelling, the Harlem artist is infusing the genre with a fresh energy that captures the essence of New York’s evolving drill landscape.

The rapper has mentioned that he aims to follow others in his label who are stamping their authority on the drill scene, such as DD Osama and JayKlickin, and hits such as “Lotti Bop” and “Hop Out” showcase this influence coming to fruition. But mere replication is not his only goal, but rather 83Baby wants to expand upon this background in order to shape the next wave of drill music. Speaking upon his desire to tap into more melodic tracks and expand his repertoire, it is clear to see that the Harlem artist is ready to make more waves.

We spoke to 83Baby to talk about his desire to go to London, his sense of community and his aspirations for the future.

901: What is your name and what do you do?

83 Baby: I’m 83 Baby. I’m a rapper from New York.

For those reading, do you want to give context as to where we are and what you’re working on?

We’re just knocking a couple songs out in the studio right now. Making music. Had to pop out quickly to speak to y’all.

NottiWorld were recently in London but unfortunately you weren’t able to make it. Do you have a message for your fans in the UK?

Shoutout to all my fans in the UK. I couldn’t make the London show but I heard it was crazy. Two sold-out shows it’s all love. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to be there but you know I appreciate all of you and I’ll see y’all soon.

A lot of your team have talked about a sense of community that’s prevalent here. Do you have anything to add around your experience with that?

For sure. Community is a big part of what we do. I thank Notti World for everything. I thank my brothers for everything. Without them I don’t know if any of this would have been possible. We’re doing this as a team. As one. We’re doing this for Notti and we want to create a legacy in his name.

What do you hope to achieve going forward?

I’m just trying to do better for myself and for the people around me. That’s the main mission.

Any last comments?

Shout out to all my fans. Shout out to all my brothers. Yeah, that’s it really.
